Ringing and waiting becomes cumbersome for the programmer, and I don't
think half a second would be long enough. Besides that, if the selection
were deliberate, then it would become an annoyance for the user to have
to wait to make the next selection.
I don't have a problem with select-document having a key-shortcut, as
long as it's not easy to hit.
